River Bassin' with "BasserDrew" Gregory

Life has been a whirlwind the past several days after placing 5th place at the Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship! I wanted to finally post up a quick recap and thank you to all of those who prayed for and supported me while on our sport’s biggest stage; all my friends, family, fans of Hooked on Wild Waters with Drew Gregory and sponsors.

I went “river bassin” of course, and was able to find river smallies willing to munch on buzzbaits, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and the new Z-Man Fishing Products CrossEyeZ jig. Buzzbait did most of the damage, but it also lost a bunch of 18+ fish, so maybe I should have made a change to a lure with a better hookup ratio. Oh well, all in the past now and I’m thankful to God for the finish I had, and always will be even when I don’t finish in the money, because I got to spend 4 days amongst His beautiful creation and that’s what it’s all about.

Huge thanks to my wife Cristina Gregory, who was at home while pregnant, and taking care of our 3 dogs. She’s 29 weeks pregnant at the moment and it’s a blessing to have some money that can be put towards our boy's future. The top 10 were told we would do the interview on stage twice (since they were filming) and I didn’t want to even mention Cristina and the baby on the way the first time because I know I would'a teared up! When we got done they changed their minds and we only did the stage thing once. So this is my chance to thank her, and entire KBF tournament team Chad Hoover, Nik Brown, Joe Haubenreich, Richard Wohlwend-Penny, Michael Ernst, Kristy Hoover, (and anyone I’m missing) again for the opportunity to win life changing money like that.

My new signature series Tennessee Trailers did awesome on the trip and it’s good timing since they’re starting to place orders now.

Big thanks to Jackson Kayak, as the Coosa HD performed flawlessly as always. Also thanks to Z-man, Bending Branches, 13 Fishing, Smith, Plano, Power-Pole Total Boat Control, Raymarine, HI-SEAS line, YakAttack, Anchor Wizard, Boonedox, Kokatat, GoPro,  Under Armour and the River Bassin Tournament Trail

The tournament gets better run each year and this year it was as smooth as an event that big can be run. I had the pleasure of taking the polygraph and felt like Ben Stiller’s character in Meet the Parents! Haha! Good to see polygraphs being done when money like this is on the line. It was a pleasure to see so many of you there and catch up with everyone.

Big thanks to my fishing partner Will Clements who ended up 4th! We worked as a team and couldn’t have done it without each other. He’s a good dude and I’m so happy for him and that all his hard work paid off!

Already looking forward to next year!

PS, new Hooked on Wild Podcast where Craig Dye and I recap this tournament is coming out soon, so be sure to subscribe on iTunes, google play or stitcher!
